  • The "Million-Word" Gap: A 2019 Ohio State University study found that children read to daily hear about 1.4 million more words by age 5 than those who are not. Even reading once or twice a week exposes children to over 63,000 extra words.

This curriculum includes reading, writing and math lessons. After an alphabet review we move into Spalding Education inspired word study utilizing the Ayres list of most frequently used words in the English language. Lessons also include sight words, punctuation, handwriting, and pyramid reading stories. Math concepts start with number writing and recognition and move into basic concepts of counting, patterns, and simple addition.

Designed for children who already know their alphabet sounds and numbers. We begin with a vowel, consonant, and alphabet review, then focus on word study as we make our way through the first 50 plus words on the Ayres list of most frequently used words in the English language, inspired by Spalding Education. Lessons review sight words, punctuation, single and multi-letter phonograms, pyramid reading stories and when to use a capital letter and how to space words in a sentence. Math concepts include counting, using a number line and 100 board to count and as an aid for addition and subtraction, even and odd numbers, skip counting, and basic shapes.

Our Curriculum is designed to first introduce your child to learning in an engaging and fun way.

  • DREAM IT

Our book boxes offer open ended play as well as structured activities as children learn through literature, art projects, crafts, activities, and worksheets. Seasonal themes are pulled from state standards and based on nature and the world around us. Topics include: ocean, desert, the Sahara, pond life, moon cycles, rainforest, patriotism, farm animals, forest (fall), garden harvest and exploration (Thanksgiving), water cycle and snow formation and animals that hibernate or migrate (winter), and more to come!

  • BUILD IT

We introduce letters and sounds, then build words. Our workbooks incorporate Montessori principles of “hands on” learning along with traditional Spalding Education phonograms. We begin by introducing vowels, then move on to consonants and consonant-vowel-consonant words. Next, we introduce a few select multi-letter phonograms. Learning should be fun and engaging, creating curiosity and successful problem solving.

  • GROW IT

Growing children need proper nourishment and mentoring. Our preschool workbooks incorporate age appropriate academics and children’s literature to provide a varied and multi-sensory experience. Littles Reading curriculum is carefully designed to follow a child’s natural speech developmental pattern and introduce new skills while continuing to review previously learned material.
